Background

Consequent to unanimous adoption of Resolution by the United Nations General Assembly
during its 69th Session for observing 21st June as International Day of Yoga, an overwhelming response has been
witnessed from the international communities across the globe. The tremendous success of the International Yoga
Conferences organized by the Ministry of AYUSH during last four consecutive years is evident from the
participation of large number of Indian and foreign delegates.

The first International Conference on Yoga on Holistic Health was inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India,
Shri Narendra Modi on 21st June 2015. Hon’ble Prime Minister released two commemorative coins of ₹ 10 and ₹ 100;
and a postal stamp of ₹ 5, to mark the occasion of the first International Day of Yoga. The Conference was attended by
nearly 1500 Indian and foreign delegates.. Hon’ble Union Minister of Home Affairs, Shri Rajnath Singh graced the
Valedictory session.

Later, ‘International Conference on Yoga for Body and Beyond’ in 2016 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, ‘International
Conference on Yoga for Wellness’ organized during the year 2017 at Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra, New Delhi and
“International Conference on Yoga for Public Health” International Conference on Yoga for Public Health’ organised
during 12-13 November, 2018 at Kala Academy, Panaji witnessed the participation of large number of Indian and
foreign delegates. The events provided the foreign participants the opportunity to capture and understand various
dimensions of Yoga and to help them further propagate the same in their respective countries.This year also, it has been
decided to organize the“International Conference on Yoga for Heart care”on the lines of the Conferences held during
last four years.

The conference would be organized during 15-16 Nov. 2019 in the Auditorium of Mysore Open University, Mysore,Karnataka. Hon’ble Chief Minister and Hon’ble Governor of Karnataka have been invited to grace the inaugural and valedictory functions of the conference respectively.

Indian Missions in around countries with whom the ministry has some kind of cooperation such as MoUs, Chairs,
Information cells, etc. have been requested to identify two prominent Yoga experts or enthusiasts from the
country/countries under their jurisdiction, who would be interested to participate in the Conference to enable them
capture and understand various dimensions of Yoga, and could help them to furtherpropagate the same in their
respective countries. The Ministry of AYUSH bears the expenses on local hospitality including boarding,lodging,
local transport, of the nominated yoga experts/ enthusiasts.

It is proposed to organise pre-conference events such as Yoga walk, mass yoga demonstration, CME programme,
etc. a day or two prior to the conference.
